Bangladesh Money

Bangladesh Taka (Tk), which is equal to 100 paisa. In circulation are banknotes in denominations of 500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 taka and coins of 500, 100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 Pais.

In an exchange of cash (recommended in the specialized banks and exchange offices) is preferable to use pounds sterling. Almost all the shopkeepers and taxi drivers accept U.S. dollars.

Credit cards (especially "American Express") and traveler's checks in U.S. dollars are accepted by large banks of the country on a par with the British pound sterling, and fairly easy to use in most hotels, guesthouses and restaurants in Dhaka and Chittagong, but outside of major cities to use them virtually impossible. Gratuity (or "baksheesh") clerk is likely to require almost every exchange everywhere except in more isolated rural areas. Outside of Dhaka and Chittagong to exchange pounds and other currencies is problematic.
