Cyprus Political system

1960 - an independent sovereign republic with a presidential form of government, the legislative body - a unicameral parliament (House of Representatives). Since 1974 the northern part of the island (3354 sq. Km.) Illegally occupied by Turkish troops, with the formation of the international community of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Between the Greek and Turkish parts there is no diplomatic relations. Turkish part is closed for entry to the Greek side.
