The Arabs spoke of the ancient Egyptian capital of Luxor, as the "city of palaces."

On the east bank are the largest temples of the pharaohs, including the most famous - Temple of Ramses II. In Luxor and its environs, you can also see the remains of temples of Hatshepsut, Colossi of Memnon. Temple of Luxor was built on the banks of the Nile in the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III and Ramses III. He was devoted to three Theban deities: Amon, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu.

You should be sure to visit the Luxor Museum. It assembled a small but very interesting collection of ancient monuments of art: Tutankhamun's burial objects, including 63 golden roses and gilded cow head of the goddess Mehit-spindles, whose horns are made from the skin and eyes of lapis lazuli. The museum is located in a modern building on the way to Karnak and is open daily from 9:00 to 13:00.

Valley of the Kings - Valley, where over a period of about 500 years, from 16 to 11 century BC were built for the burial tomb of the pharaohs - the kings of ancient Egypt. The valley is located on the west bank of the Nile, opposite the city of Thebes (modern Luxor). It consists of two valleys, East Valley, where most of the tombs, and West Valley. This area since the late 18 th century became the center of archaeological and Egyptological research, and so far its tombs and burials continue to attract the attention of researchers.

In our time, the valley has become famous thanks to the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb (after rumors of the curse of the Pharaohs), and one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. In 1979, together with the remnants Fivskogo necropolis, the Valley has been recognized by UNESCO World Heritage Site.

From Luxor you can make interesting journey to the major archaeological sites of Upper Egypt. 67 km north of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile near the small town of Qena, is located in the Dendera Temple, an ancient cultural center in the love goddess Hathor.

98 km to the north of Dendera, near the town of al-Balian is an ancient Abydos with incredible in its beauty temple of pharaoh Seti I, dedicated to the god Osiris, ruler of the netherworld.

At 54 miles south of Luxor is well-preserved temple of the god-potter Hnuma in Esne, and another 53 kilometers to the south - Edfu - the famous sanctuary of the falcon god Horus, the legendary founder of the Egyptian pharaohs and one of the best preserved temples of ancient Egypt.
