Koktebel especially popular among writers, poets, artists, scientists and students.

The founder of the local resort was a doctor-ophthalmologist Professor ZA Junge. He bought land Koktebel valley with a view to transform it into a thriving resort, but the money he did not have. This forced him to sell land in small areas. Since the beginning of XX century there appeared the first house. In 1916 he settled in Koktebel poet and painter MA Voloshin. His estate eventually became a kind of rest home for people of creative work. At various times it was visited by a great many wonderful people: AM Gorky, AN Tolstoy, VY Bryusov, VV Veresaev, KA Trenev, MA Bulgakov and many others.

My house MA Voloshin donated to the Writers' Union. On its basis later grew House of creativity Koktebel. Now the house of the poet - the literary and art museum, where you can see the beautiful watercolors MA Voloshin and pictures of his friend, the painter, KF Bogayevsky. In different years here there have been Gorky, Prishvin, V. Bruce, A. Green, Marina Tsvetaeva, and other prominent cultural figures.

Koktebel is the cradle of the modern gliding. Since 1922, competitions were Soviet pilots. Now there is a museum Gliding. The main attraction is the extinct volcano Kara-Dag, now at Kara-Dag is possible to get only part of an organized tour.

Less known, but for many very important, the dignity of Cape Kiik-Atlama - there is always the wind blows, because the Cape is given away to sea. Hence two consequences: there is never any mosquitoes and always great weather for sailing!

Karadag (Black Mountain) - an ancient extinct volcano, the incumbent 120-160 million years ago. Since 1979 - State Reserve. Occupies the area of 22 square. km from the villages to Koktebel Schebetovka and spa, creating a cozy coastal parts of the bay. Ridges and peaks are Turkic names: Khoba-Tepe (top with caves), Syuryu-Kay (sharp rocks). There is a canyon Gyaur-Bach (Garden of infidels), spring Gyaur-Cesme (Source infidels). Karadagsky Biological Station, founded MD Terenty Viazemsky Ivanovich (1857-1914), is a branch of the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Kray, studied by scientists, is a unique natural complex mineralogical, due to successful combination of land and sea, mountains and plains, forests, steppes and semi-deserts. It found more than a thousand species of plants, including endemic species, which is not anywhere else. Noted more than 1,632 species of butterflies. 199 species of birds, 107 species of fish. At the station created Karadag Nature Museum, there is an aquarium. Especially popular are excursions to the Dolphinarium, where seals and dolphins demonstrate their circus act. In the reserve there are excursions to ecological path length of about 7 km. Biostation borders with the village spa, where they take on holiday KRYMSKOE Primorje and children's camp Koktebel.
