In 1376, the Czech King Charles IV ordered to establish an artificial pond, intended for breeding fish. The lake got its name in the second half of the 20 century - in honor of Czech romantic poet, the 19 th century Charles Hynek Macha, and up to 50 years of the last century was called simply - "Big Pond".

Máchovo lake surrounded by beautiful pine and beech forests, which are always a lot of blueberries, cranberries and mushrooms. 278-hectare area of the lake enliven the two islands - Myshy Castle and Kahn Island, both belong to the National Park birds.
