Mainly moderate continental climate with three distinct climatic zones - in central east of the country with hot summers and cold winters, the Alps in the north-west, with cold winters and moderate summers and Mediterranean on the Adriatic coast. In summer the average air temperature in most parts of the country is 21 C, and winter - from -2 C in the north-west to 6 C on the Adriatic coast. The best months in the mountains are September - May, on the coast - from the beginning of June until the end of October.
