Greenland Traditional cuisine

Greenland Traditional Greenlandic food inevitably includes meat with blood and fresh dead animals: walruses, seals and whales. The most delicious part - the eyes, kidneys and heart - traditionally left to the chief hunter, and the other organs are distributed according to hierarchy. In the food use of all animal entirely, no disdaining. Jean Malaurie in his book, The Last Kings of Thule describes the local delicacies from litter partridge and seal oil, or, for example, a narwhal fat and water, mixed with seal brain and chew grass from the first stomach of a deer. Even if you are happy to try everything new and unusual, we recommend you think twice before you try the traditional Greenland diet. Hardly any local dish will be one day in the pages of culinary magazine Gourmet.

Nowadays, supermarkets have replaced the local people hunt. The store Greenlanders can even buy a tropical fruit, although packed steak whale or walrus meat can still be found in the frozen food department.
