Austria - a federal parliamentary republic with a presidential form of government. Head of state - the president who is elected for 6 years by universal suffrage. The Federal Chancellor heads the government, whose members are appointed by the president. Legislature - bicameral parliament (National Council and Federal Council). Administrative unit - the land, headed by the governor.
